Luweero District was the site of a fierce insurgency by the rebel group National Resistance Army and a brutal counter-insurgency by the government of Milton Obote that left many thousands of civilians dead during the early to mid-1980s.

Rukungiri District
Rukungiri is in the Kigezi sub-region in western Uganda. It is the home district of opposition party Forum for Democratic Change - FDC's first president and leading opposition politician, Retired Colonel Dr. Kizza Besigye. Dr. Besigye is a presidential candidate (in the 2016 elections) for the fouth time since 2001.
Lwengo District
Lwengo district is in Central Uganda. It became functional on 1 July 2010. Prior to that, it was part of Masaka District.
Mukono District
Mukono District, home to the Sezibwa Falls, is one of the old districts in central Uganda. Over time it has been split up to form new districts - Kayunga and Buikwe.
Rakai District
Outspoken presidential advisor on media affairs, and former presidential press secretary (having served the longest) Tamale Mirundi was born in Kalisizo in Rakai district.
Kapchorwa District
Kapchorwa, a district in the Northeast of Uganda, is the home district of 2012 London Olympics gold medalist Stephen
Kiprotich
Adjumani District
Adjumani District is home district of senior politician and retired military
officer Gen. Moses Ali who currently serves as the third deputy prime minister. He's the member of parliament for East Moyo County.
Kabale District
Kabale is the major commercial centre of the Kigezi sub-region in southwestern Uganda. It borders the Republic of Rwanda.
Rubirizi District
Rubirizi is a new district that was formed out of Bushenyi. Close to half of Queen Elizabeth National Park lies in this district as well as part of Lake Edward and the Kazinga Channel that joins Lake Edward and Lake George.
Katakwi District
Katakwi District is home district of the youngest elected Member of Parliament
in Africa continent, Proscovia Alengot Oromait who was elected in 2012 at the age
of 19 as a legislator for Usuk County in Katakwi District.
Buikwe District
Buikwe became a district on 1 July 2009. Prior to that, it was part of Mukono district.
