Kabale is the major commercial centre of the Kigezi sub-region in southwestern Uganda. It borders the Republic of Rwanda.
The district of Kabale is home of current prime minister (from 2014) and former UN former permanent
representative Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda. Hon. Rugunda was a one-time member of parliament for
Kabale Municipality from 1996-2001.
Other prominent people from Kabale include Businessman Amos Nzeyi also hails from Kabale as well as David Bahati, the state minister for
planning, who is also a member of parliament for Ndorwa East constituency though he’s
more known internationally for being the author of the 2009 Anti-Homosexuality
Bill.
There is a new university in the district, Kabale University.
The altitude averages 1,800 metres above sea level with a
maximum of 2,350 metres in the most hilly sides. It’s colder than the rest of
the country. It's known as the Switzerland of Africa.
Kabale district borders Rukungiri to the north, Ntungamo to the northeast, Kisoro to the west and Kanungu District to the northwest.
