Mukono District, home to the Sezibwa Falls, is one of the old districts in central Uganda. Over time it has been split up to form new districts - Kayunga and Buikwe.
Mukono is home to Uganda Christian University, one of the top institutions of higher learning in Uganda.

The district borders Kayunga to the north, Buikwe to the east, Kalangala to the southwest, Wakiso to the west, and Luweero to the northwest. South of Mukono district is the Republic of
