Rakai District

Outspoken presidential advisor on media affairs, and former presidential press secretary (having served the longest) Tamale Mirundi was born in Kalisizo in Rakai district.

Rakai borders Lyantonde to the northwest, Lwengo to the north, Masaka to the northeast, Kalangala to the east, Isingiro to the southwest, and Kiruhura to the northwest.

Rakai is largely a village district
The district also borders the Republic of Tanzania to the south, Because of the Uganda's border with Tanzania, the district experiences cross border commercial traffic to and from Bukoba port.

District Headquarters: Rakai, 65 kilometres southwest of Masaka.

Rakai District is where the first recorded case of HIV in Uganda was. The district has been particularly hard hit by the virus and AIDS.
