Buikwe became a district on 1 July 2009. Prior to that, it was part of Mukono district.

Buikwe district borders Jinja District to the east, Kayunga District to the north, Buvuma District to
the southeast and Mukono District to the
west. It's boarders the Republic of Tanzania to the south.
District Headquarters: Buikwe, 60 kilometres east of the capital Kampala.
