Lira is the home district of Uganda’s first prime minister and two-time
president Dr. Apollo Milton Obote. It is the major administrative and commercial center of the Lango
sub-region in Northern Uganda.
The district borders Pader to the north, Otuke to the
northeast, Alebtong to the east, Dokolo to the southeast,
Apac to the southwest and Kole to the west.
District Headquarters: Lira, 110 kilometres southeast of Gulu.
