Gulu District

Much of the armed war in the 1990s to early 2000s between the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) army and Joseph Kony's Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) took place in Gulu district.
This district is home to Democratic Party - DP's President General Norbert Mao who has served as the district Chairperson and member of parliament for Gulu Municipality. This is also the home district of the famous poet Okot p'Bitek

Gulu borders Lamwo to the north, Pader to the east, Oyam to the south, Nwoya to the southwest, and Amuru to the west.
