Jinja District

Jinja district is an industrial area and the biggest commercial area in the Busoga sub-region. The Kyabazinga (traditional leader of Basoga) palace is in Jinja district.


A number of good schools are located in Jinja, including Busoga College Mwiri where Uganda's first prime minister Dr. Apollo Milton Obote and the current prime minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda studied from.

The source of River Nile is located here as well as the famous Bujagali water falls.

Jinja borders Kamuli to the north, Luuka to the east, Mayuge to the southeast, Buvuma to the south, Buikwe to the west and Kayunga to the northwest.

District Headquarters: Buwenge, 86 kilometres east of Uganda’s capital Kampala.
