It is home of the Islamic University in Uganda - the first Islamic university, and now one of the leading institutions of higher learning in Uganda.
It borders Sironko to the north, Pallisa and Kumi to the northwest, Bududa to
the northeast, Manafwa to the southeast, Tororo to the south,
Butaleja to the southwest and Budaka to the west.
District Headquarters: Mbale, the largest town and main
administrative and commercial center in the Bugisu sub-region, 245 kilometres northeast of Uganda’s capital Kampala.
