Kisoro District

Kisoro district is in the southwest corner of Uganda, bordering the Republic of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

IGP Kale Kayihura
The  Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura was born and is a resident of this district which is also home for veteran politician Dr. Philemon Mateke, the state minister (since 2015) for regional cooperation in the Uganda cabinet.

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park popular for mountain gorillas, is found here at the border with the Republic of Rwanda. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park, one of only four national parks in the world with the African mountain gorilla lies partly here.

Kisoro borders Kanungu to the north, Kabale to the east, the Republic of Rwanda to the south, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo - DRC to the west.
