Buliisa District

Buliisa district is one of the districts in the Bunyoro sub-region in Western Uganda, bordering the Democratic Republic of the Congo across Lake Albert.
In the early 2000s, a considerable amount of crude petroleum deposits were discovered in the district and neighboring districts. The Government of Uganda has partnered with international oil exploration companies and extraction is expected to begin soon.

Buliisa district borders Nebbi to the northwest, Nwoya to the northeast, Masindi to the east, Hoima to the south  to the west.

District Headquarters: Buliisa, 80 kilometres northwest of Masindi.
